Dhansar Engineering Company run by the Agarwalla family has a history with coal mining dating back to 1890 when in pre-independent India, coal mining began without any machines but with men of great determination, courage, and ambitions.
Today the family business is being run by the 6th generation of Agarwallas, who have made Dhanbad their home for over 130 years and have built DECO to continue their mission in India’s coal mining. Today, DECO is a name to reckon with in Coal mining in the Eastern Belt of India. DECO is operational in the BCCL mines of Dhanbad.

Those who understand the mining business will know that by the end of 10 years most of the mining equipment gets chewed and beaten up and probably land itself in a scrapyard. Considering this, the fact that the Volvo trucks in the DECO fleet are still operating, doing the job that they were supposed to, and with over consistent 85% uptime is a testimony of extreme quality, durability & reliability.

As far as possible they try to let the same team handle the trucks. While drivers play an important role in fuel efficiency, they are equally responsible for the maintenance of the trucks. An interesting observation that came up during the conversation was has the fuel efficiency decreased over the years? With the vehicles being in operation for 12 years, there is no interest or depreciation. So even if the fuel efficiency does go down a bit which technically it will, Volvo Trucks still make financial sense. An outstanding achievement in one of the toughest coal mining regions.
