Dhansar Engineering Company run by the Agarwalla family has a history with coal mining dating back to 1890 when in pre-independent India, coal mining began without any machines but with men of great determination, courage, and ambitions.
Today the family business is being run by the 6th generation of Agarwallas, who have made Dhanbad their home for over 130 years and have built DECO to continue their mission in India’s coal mining. Today, DECO is a name to reckon with in Coal mining in the Eastern Belt of India. DECO is operational in the BCCL mines of Dhanbad.
Volvo Trucks has leveraged technology, innovation, skill, and a vast support network to create the finest transportation solutions across various industries across the world. In India, we replicated the same success to cater to the unique requirements in transportation. Volvo Trucks have proven to be dependable, reliable, safe, fuel-efficient, and driver-friendly. When it comes to coal mining, we have been catering to the needs of an industry that is highly demanding and operates in extreme conditions. We have grown with our customers learning, overcoming challenges, achieving goals, and setting benchmarks.
The Volvo quality speaks for itself when it works in the deep mines and one of the toughest conditions in India, where other trucks give up. Working with big boulders in depths of over 150 mtr only Volvo Trucks meet the challenges day in day out. We have 2 Volvo FMs which have finished operating over 48000 hours in these conditions
Those who understand the mining business will know that by the end of 10 years most of the mining equipment gets chewed and beaten up and probably land itself in a scrapyard. Considering this, the fact that the Volvo trucks in the DECO fleet are still operating, doing the job that they were supposed to, and with over consistent 85% uptime is a testimony of extreme quality, durability & reliability.
Volvo Genuine Parts are the best to maintain the Volvo Tippers as original Volvo. With Volvo Genuine parts one is assured of peak performance, reliability, and efficiency throughout the service life of the tippers. The sentiment of machines being under the care of the same set of technicians is echoed here. DECO believes that drivers and technicians play a major role in the upkeep of the trucks. As far as possible they try to let the same team handle the trucks. While drivers play an important role in fuel efficiency, they are equally responsible for the maintenance of the trucks. Adapting the Best Driving Practices also reduces the wear and tear of the machine. An interesting observation that came up during the conversation was has the fuel efficiency decreased over the years? With the vehicles being in operation for 12 years, there is no interest or depreciation. So even if the fuel efficiency does go down a bit which technically it will, Volvo Trucks still make financial sense. An outstanding achievement in one of the toughest coal mining regions.
Volvo Trucks can handle heavy loads in tough mining conditions. There are technology features that ensure the jobs are done quickly, safely, and with an operating economy. The unmatched performances of these trucks are a testimony. Volvo Trucks deliver for long working hours with maximum uptime and is supported by excellent aftermarket support. These are an ideal example of how the teams of Volvo Trucks and the customer sites complement each other to reduce every possible area that causes downtime and resulted in setting a new benchmark of 48,000 – 50,000 hours of operation. This is an outstanding performance by any standards because it was achieved in one of the toughest coal mining regions of India.
