The latest generation of heavy-duty electric trucks are built from experience to deliver for you today. But now with greater flexibility, increased payload and more range than ever before.

Seven years ago, Volvo Trucks set out to electrify heavy transport with a clear goal: to deliver trucks that perform as well as their diesel counterparts while reducing CO2 emissions. What began with a handful of prototypes has become one of the most complete electric truck line-ups in the world.

Now, the next generation of Volvo FH, FM and FMX Electric trucks take that experience even further. Two new drivetrains – Volvo FH Aero with extended range and the updated FH, FM, and FMX Electric – form the backbone of a new electric heavy-duty range designed to fit almost any operation. In fact, with many contracts today won or lost on sustainability, fleets can tackle even more segments and routes with electric trucks than before.

“It’s been a huge learning journey,” says Håkan Rosén Commercialization Manager electric at Volvo Trucks. “The result is that today we can realistically replace most diesel operations with electric ones without compromise.”

From long-haul and regional distribution to construction, road maintenance and refuse collection, the new electric trucks are designed to mirror diesel operations across a wide range of applications. For both bodybuilders and drivers, the working principles remain familiar, allowing electric trucks to be integrated into existing fleets with minimal disruption.

Mirror your fleet without compromise

“With the Volvo FH Aero Electric with extended range, you can shorten the charging breaks and increase the workable range,” says Håkan. With larger batteries, up to 700 km of range and faster charging, it’s now possible for 24/7 or two-shift operations to shift to electric.

To effectively mirror your diesel fleet’s uptime, Håkan recommends charging the trucks where they naturally spend the most time. “Depots, loading yards, rest areas,” he says.

“For single-shift trucks parked overnight, a slow or mid-speed depot charger is perfect and cheapest,” adds xxxx. “When drivers understand how to get the most from their trucks, everyone wins – the operation runs smoothly, costs go down and overall emissions are reduced.”

The Volvo FH Aero Electric with extended range

  •  Purpose: Long-haul and intercity transport (up to 700 km/day)

  • Core feature: Compact e-axle integrating two electric motors and six-speed gearbox in a single unit, freeing up chassis space for more batteries. Up to 460 kW (623 hp) power output

  • Result: Greater usable energy and higher charging pace, ideal for hub-to-hub routes and two-shift operations

  • Total capacity: up to 700km on a single charge*

  • Range: Flexible battery configurations and fast charging enable electric long-haul transport with fewer changes to routes or operating patterns

  • Charging: 700 kW MCS (Megawatt) 20-80 % in 50 minutes |350kW CCS (Combined Charging System) 20-80% in 85 minutes

  • Special capability: Trailer power take-off for refrigerated units eliminating the need for a separate diesel generator

Volvo FH, FM and FMX Electric – next generation

  • Purpose: Construction, regional distribution, urban logistics, utilities, refuse and heavy special applications

  • Core feature: New dual-motor drivetrain with purpose-built gearbox with eight gears to maximize electric torque. Up to 540 kW (731 hp) power output

  • Result: Smoother Low speed control, higher traction and improved regenerative braking

  • Flexibility: Built for heavier loads and demanding terrain; can be specified with twin-drive axles and low gearing for maximum flexibility

  • Range: up to 470 km on a single charge*

  • Total capacity: Up to 65 tonnes GCW (Gross Combination Weight)

  • Charging: 350 kW CCS (Combined Charging System) 20-80% in 65 minutes

  • Special capability: Multiple configurations with power take-off – split motors or dual-motor output for cranes, hook lifts or tipper bodies

*Range depends on several external conditions such as the weather, wind resistance, total weight of the truck and the driver’s performance.
